First Chuck and Larry still

It’s not like we haven’t known about this movie for months now, people. Way to take your sweet time releasing the stills, huh? Just shy of a month before release, we have our first look at Buscemi as Clinton Fitzer in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. We are much obliged; better late than never.

Summer releases

Perhaps you’re wondering, ‘Gosh! How can I enjoy a summer blockbuster event when Buscemi’s next movie isn’t out for weeks?’

Hey, I’m here for you. I just so happened to notice that the highly anticipated Transformers (IMdb) flick, featuring the one and only Mr. John Turturro, is set to open July 3. You might remember him from such Steve-centric hits as Romance and Cigarettes, Mr. Deeds and The Big Lebowski. He is also directing the final movie of the van Gogh trilogy, 1-900. (Interview was the first, Blind Date the second.) Being a child of the 80’s, I know a thing or two about the Transformers. Everyone I know is really freaking out about this one, and chances are I’ll ignore my own mixed feelings and check it out once the crowds die down.

Interview

But, since this website is not called The Illustrious John Turturro, I am very happy to again remind you that Interview will slide onto the big screen July 13. I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry is still up for it’s July 20 release date and Delirious will be around shortly after, with a limited release on August 15. (Just in time for my birthday, well planned!)

Quite a full plate for us this summer, I’d say.

Lebowski in HD

Lebowski HD 1

Big Lebowski

If you’re one of those incredibly lucky people rocking the HDTV/DVD, you can now enjoy The Big Lebowski as God intended. Every scene and line of banter is cleaned and streamed to crispy, crunchy clarity for your maximum enjoyment. Bonuses include:

  • A special introduction to the film with ‘Mortimer Young’
  • The Making of the Big Lebowski
  • Photographs of Jeff Bridges

Nothing different from the standard DVD, I think, but it is HD and therefore far superior. Obviously. It was released June 26th, and is currently available online (and probably in stores as well).

Photo Sunday: SIFF

I was scanning the Almighty Web for a little snip of something to post this evening and came across these great shots of Buscemi at SIFF. He doesn’t look particularly thrilled to be there, but I understand the circuit can be a bit exhausting. You can view the entire set on Flickr.

We’re the lucky ones

I’m one of the luckiest actors alive.

Buscemi interviews are always a treat to read. He’s not known to enjoy doing them, but he never disappoints and this one is no exception. On the heels of the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) Buscemi sits down to dish about his favorite role, upcoming releases - Interview! Delirious! - and his early career.

I Now Pronounce You One Month Away

Chuck and Larry poster

Chuck and Larry poster 1

Yep, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry is but a month away from sweet release. With gay rights such a hot button issue these days, this movie shouldn’t have much of a problem cashing into the drama. I’ll go see it for Sandler and Buscemi, but I’ve never been a massive fan of the Kevin James guy and the plot seems thin. It was nominated as ‘Best Summer Movie You Haven’t Seen Yet’ at the MTV Movie Awards, but lost out to Transformers.

The premise: Two very straight - and very broke - firefighters tie the knot to take advantage of the new same-sex benefits.
The trailer: Watch it here
Why you’ll want to go: Jessica Biel in a bikini. Also, hello? Adam Sandler, people.
Buscemi plays: A man by the name of Clinton Fitzer, a city official determined to uncover the deceit.
Now showing: This movie opens on July 20, 2007

TISB lab

I am currently working to expand the TISB you know and love to include much more information like on-site movie synopses and a larger biography. I find I reference other websites like IMDb far too often and personally provide far too little information outside current events. I would have started last night, but I forgot my laptop power cord in another city and ran it’s battery down watching anime. Sorry.

I can’t promise it will be complete any time soon - I have decided I will watch every movie I add, so as to more easily add my own commentary as if anyone actually cares - but I hope to have it at least half completed and ready to unveil by the one year anniversary of The Illustrious Steve Buscemi: August something.

Thank you for your patience, as if you had a choice! -M

Another good review: Paris

I’m sure you are all getting sick of “Paris this” and “Tuileries that” but I can’t resist just one more review. You’ll see why if you just read on:

The emotions are lower-down in the Tuileries episode by the Coen brothers. I never get enough travel, so to make up for it, I pick up Lonely Planet guides and read about the terrible things that can happen to tourists. Because of this bad habit, I was probably too carried away by this short slapstick comedy set entirely in the Tuileries Metro. Peering into the camera with the reproachfulness of a walloped llama, Steve Buscemi sits; the tour book he’s reading feeds his traveler’s uneasiness. Its text fills the screen, as big as the script in Barton Fink. First, it comforts him with blather (”Paris is a city for lovers of art, for lovers … of love”). Then it jitters him with precautions: “Do not make eye contact with strangers.” Too late, Buscemi’s wayward glance zooms 100 yards right into the furious stare of a jealous Latin rageball across the tracks.

The reproachfulness of a walloped llama… I love it. I think I just found my new tagline.

Paris, Je T’Aime opened May 25, so go see it already!

“Tuileries” leaked

As it tends to happen, the scene “Tuileries” from Paris, Je T’Aime has been leaked online. I debated quite a bit whether or not to post a link here. While I am as big a fan of piracy as the next girl, I don’t think it would be fair or good of me to do.

However, I took several screen caps from the scene, which you can find after the cut. All but one are of Buscemi, with no spoilers to speak of. I will say, after having watched it, that his facial expressions (Buscemi does not speak) are killer. The clip is hilarious, and only makes me want to see Paris that much more.
