The Dude Returns

In 1998, Academy Award(R) winners Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old
Men, Fargo) created a comic film noir about a lovably addled slacker who is
mistaken for a multimillionaire businessman. In the decade since “The Big
Lebowski,” the film has continued to grow in popularity, achieving cult status
around the world.

You know what that means! Bill$, baby. Are you already the proud owner of The Big Lebowski DVD, Blu-Ray DVD, HD-DVD and unofficial book? Make room! The 10th Aniversary DVD is hitting stores September 9.

It comes in a bowling ball and has some pretty sweet sounding extras, including a homage to Lebowski Fest and a look-back by Buscemi, Bridges, Goodman, Turturro and the divine Ms. Moore. See the list of goodies in the official press release (or watch some clips at the website) and dive through those couch cushions for change.

DVD Sale Date for ‘Unwritten’

Just over a year since it’s UK release, Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten will be released on DVD July 8 by Sony Legacy.

Celebrity friends who appear in the documentary about The Clash’s infamous singer include Steve Buscemi, Bono, John Cusack, Peter Crushing, Johnny Depp and Jim Jarmusch. ‘Unwritten’ premiered at Sundance Film Festival back in January of ‘07, and is directed by Julien Temple.

Delirious DVD date #864: Seriously this time

tom-dicillo1.jpg

We’ve heard numerous release dates, and once again the ‘final’ time has changed. Delirious, the Tom DiCillo flick starring Steve Buscemi and Michael Pitt will show itself on shelves on May 6. Extras include a commentary track, behind the scenes featurette, a selection of podcasts (you’ve already seen them, vigilant reader) and a music video.

I want to be excited, but I’m just too afraid. You’ve burned me in the past, Delirious DVD Date. I just don’t know if I can trust you until I have you in my shaking hands… or until DiCillo returns my e-mails. Sweet confirmation! Looks like it’s true. Well, color me excited to be alive.

Long live Blu-Ray

HD-DVD is dead. Congratulations on all your lovely new coasters! Fortunately, several B-Movies have been Blu’d, including Reservoir Dogs, Con Air and Monster House. Sadly, The Big Lebowski and Chuck and Larry are stuck on the loser’s side. Hopefully they’ll transition over, once HD is phased out completely.

Romance and Cigarettes DVD date

Romance and Cigarettes, the kooky musical with an all-star cast (Steve Buscemi, Kate Winslet, Susan Sarandon, James Gandolfini, Christopher Walken, Mary Louise-Parker…) will be out on DVD February 12, 2008. John Turturro, you delicious man. I am so glad this will finally hit DVD! It’s been sitting saved in my NetFlix for months.

Got HD? Sucks to be you!

Warner Bros has gone exclusively Blu-Ray.

Consumers have clearly chosen Blu-ray, and we believe that recognizing this preference is the right step in making this great home entertainment experience accessible to the widest possible audience.

This is one more strike against HD-DVD in the mighty Format Wars. Warner Bros is Blu-Ray only. Paramount is HD-DVD only. The only losers here? The consumer. Personally, I watch all my DVDs on my 2 year old Compaq laptop. If I wanted picture quality true to life, I’d walk outside and make my own memories.

But that’s just me. [Source]

Interview on DVD today

Tom Russo:

As they trade psychological jabs, taking exchanges that could be stagey and making them feel mostly natural, you’ll be suckered again and again into believing that she’s finally developed some depth, and he’s developed some empathy.

His Royal Ebert:

Kind of fascinating, especially in the ways that Buscemi and Miller make their performances into commentaries on the types of characters they play.

I hear the director’s commentary is good, with a featurette that outlines the background of the movie, including the life and death of Theo van Gogh. Released by Sony Pictures Classic, $24.95.

Delirious DVD date - sort of

Anyway, the DVD is next; set to come out mid March.

So says Tom DiCillo, director of Delirious. First I heard end of year ‘07, then February and finally mid-March. Hopefully this is lucky number three, because I am really dying to see this damn film.

Interview box art!

IGN! My hero! Behold, friends, the box art for the upcoming release (Dec. 11!) of Interview! Aside from the alarmingly airbrushed Buscemi, it looks so campy and fun! Four stars! So many reasons for exclamation points!!
