Buscemi in Texas indie?
Posted by Mona - No CommentsBuried in a rather interesting (if dubious) investment story - two Texas men investing in Indie films, of all things - is this little piece of sweetmeat:
Bradley said the company is about to start filming its first project, titled Saint John of Las Vegas, featuring Steve Buscemi, the hapless and horny kidnapper-turned-murderer in Fargo.
The IndieVest idea is an interesting one, and I applaud anything that will get more indies cranked out for public consumption. I’m just not so sure it will actually work. Here’s hoping.
First look: Scamper

Naturally!
Cruz joins G-Force

Cast update for G-Force: Penelope Cruz has been added as a guinea pig (opposite Nicholas Cage) in the animation/live action mash-up movie. Other talent includes Steve Buscemi, Will Arnett and Tracy Morgan.
The movie opens May 1, 2009 with Jerry Bruckheimer as producer. Hoyt Yeatman, known until now for his visual effects work, is making his directorial debut. I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s made of.

New poster for Igor
Posted by Mona - No Comments
A new poster was released for Igor, the animated film by the genius Chris McKenna. Here we see the title character, voiced by John Cusack (love him) and Buscemi’s snuggable rabbit Scamper. Igor will release to theatres on October 24, 2008. Look for kid’s meal toys, playsets and comic books to hit stores soon.
Happy (50th) birthday, Steve Buscemi!

What a lucky boy you are.
You look fantastic, with a wife and kid who seem to like you (despite one being around for 20-odd years and the other being a teenage boy); your career has never been stronger and your fans just adore every inch of what you offer the world. Whether you’re moonlighting as Director Steve, walking easily in the starring spotlight, in a bit player or a cameo role, your unique style, looks and talent are easy to recognize and easy to admire.

You are adorably bumbling in every interview you do, just like any normal guy caught off guard by all those bright lights and microphones. As one fan wrote:
Can you imagine if Buscemi ever won a major award (Golden Globe, Oscar) for his work? The guy is a nervous wreck during interviews. Put him up on stage, accepting an award, the poor man may faint!
You know, I have to completely agree, but that’s just one small part of your complex and fabulous charm.
With love,
Your Theatergoing Public (as told by Mona)
History! On this day in 1937: the Nanking Massacre began, which would stretch six weeks into 1938. Sound familiar? The events have been made into a movie, based on the diaries of John Rabe, and it co-stars Steve Buscemi as Dr. Robert Wilson. How about that?
Wii gets Igor
Posted by Mona - No CommentsJust a year under its release date, Igor has already lent itself out to fast food joints and toys. Now comes news of a video game as well.
The game will be an action puzzler, but the publishers did not provide further details. Whether or not connectivity between the Wii and DS versions will be implemented is unknown.
Igor: The Game has been announced for the Nintendo Wii and should arrive about the same time as the movie, October 24, 2008. No word on if the movie cast will translate over.
Buscemi named in G-Force
Posted by Mona - No Comments
Steve Buscemi, Nicholas Cage and Tracy Morgan will voice the three lead characters in G-Force, the upcoming Walt Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer animation/live action movie. Will Arnet and Bill Nighy have also signed on.
The story follows a group of ultra-intelligent animal commandoes who work for a government agency trying to prevent an evil billionaire from taking over the world. Cage will play Speckles, a mole; Buscemi will portray Bucky, a hamster; and Morgan will voice Blaster, a guinea pig. Nighy will portray an industrialist, and Arnett will play an FBI agent.
G-Force is slated to release May 1, 2009.
Igor nabs promo deal

After months of no word on Igor there is news that the animated movie nabbed a promotion deal with CKE Restaurants. Over 3,000 Hardees and Carls Jr locations will participate, with toys, in-store displays and online advertising.
There will also be books, play sets and action figures:
Weinstein and Exodus already have lined up several licensing partners for the film, including a master license for toys and collectibles with Corgi International, a publishing deal with Simon & Schuster and a comic book series with IDW Publishing.
Corgi will release a wide range of products, including action figures and play sets. Simon & Schuster plans nine “Igor” books, which will be published under its Simon Scribbles and Simon Spotlight imprints.
Igor is the animated tale of a young scientist out to win the science fair. Buscemi voices Scamper the rabbit, with other talent including John Cleese, Chris McKenna, Eddie Izzard and John Cusack. To say this movie will be ‘good’ is a vast understatement, especially with a lineup like that. Igor is set for release October 24, 2008.
Buscemi as American doctor
Posted by Mona - No CommentsYou saw it here first! (God, I love typing that)
It’s true: Steve Buscemi will star in the upcoming John Rabe, a true story based on the Nanjing Massacre. Only his character isn’t German, he’s American.
Buscemi plays real-life American Dr. Robert Wilson, who remained in Nanjing during the occupation to care for legions of victims.
I love war movies, I love historic movies and I love Steve Buscemi movies. This one sounds like it’s worth hitting the theatre for… too bad it won’t be out for another year or so.
Buscemi as German doctor?
Posted by Mona - 1 CommentBuscemi will play a doctor who helps Rabe protect Chinese refugees and Zhang will portray a student whose family is targeted by Japanese troops, the statement said.
He may be known for his crazy, silly characters but Buscemi has proven many times that he can play serious very well. ‘Serious’ in this case just happens to fall under ‘aiding and abetting rape and murder in WWII era Japan’. This is “breaking news” from an unverified gossip source, so take it with a grain of salt.
Rabe, a German businessman and Nazi, was part of a group of expatriates who set up a safety zone for Chinese refugees in the Japanese city of Nanking during the slaughter of at least 150,000 Chinese civilians and the rape of tens of thousands of women. [Source]
The movie in question, appropriately titled John Rabe, will be directed by Oscar winner Florian Gallenberger. If Buscemi takes the part, 2008 is set to be a busy, busy year. The unnamed German/Japanese film makes five movies either in production or pending release between now and early 2009. That’s if he does not continue to appear on TV or pursue another directing gig.
