The Chicago Way

Only about three months too late (as is my style) here are screens to ER’s 14th Season Finale, The Chicago Way, guest starring you’ll-never-guess-who. It was fun to see Buscemi in another TV guest spot, even if the ending was as predictable as the character. No Emmy nom for this one; no wonder.

Okay, so I’m not a fan of ER. Buscemi rocked, though, so the absurd emotional roller coaster that is the ER plotline is worth riding for his drunken performance and ratings-grabbing thigh flash.

And then, of course, there’s Tucci.

In a cold, lonely world, there is always Tucci.

King of New York

Buscemi had a very small part, but I just need an excuse for an extra dose of Walken goodness in my life. See the rest of the stills at Flickr.

Interview screencaps

I have been with all kinds of whores, all over the world, and you, my dear, are no crackwhore.

Only about two months too late: Interview screencaps are up on Flickr. This movie… it was really, really great. The camera work especially really gave that fly-on-the-wall feeling. The ending, too, will make you stop and think.

Watch it twice, once for content and again for Theo-spotting. Brother Mike B. even pops in for a cameo, the veritable frosting on an already tasty cake.

Trees Lounge screencaps

This whole movie can be summed up in one sad way: Tommy fucked up real bad. And Tommy just keeps fucking up, right on through. A man who drowns himself in whiskey, night after night, is not the premise of a funny, feel-good film.

The movie draws heavily from Buscemi’s own life, which makes it especially great and personal. The movie is full of family - brother Michael is a co-star and his father makes a cameo - and actors he admires and wrote strictly for. I was delighted to finally see it; it was better than I imagined and certainly my favorite so far. Director Steve did pretty well for a newbie.

Barton Fink screencaps

Buscemi fills a neat little niche in Barton Fink as the eager Chet. John Turturro and John Goodman makes this movie very funny and the Cohen Brothers keep everything running smartly. See all the stills over at Flickr.

30 Rock Recap

Your sex life checked out very nicely.

The general consensus seems to suggest that Buscemi did great, it was the story that made no sense. You can judge for yourself. If you missed the episode when it aired live, click here to see it free on the NBC website. This is my first time watching 30 Rock, and I thought it was brilliant. They won an Emmy, you know.

The Simpsons Caged Bird screencaps

Guess what?! I had nothing better to do than drink martinis and watch The Simpsons! See the rest of I Don’t Wanna Know Why the Caged Bird Sings episode screencaps over at Flickr.

Animal Factory screencaps

Better to rule in Hell than serve in Heaven.

Willem Dafoe shaving in the shower, Mickey Rourke in drag and the late Rockets Redglare make this the film dreams are made of… minus the depraved sex. Animal Factory, Director Steve’s second movie, focuses on the angry, violent and incarcerated. Buscemi himself has a small role, as does his brother Michael, both as jailhouse employees. Dafoe completely steals the entire movie and plays his role beautifully. Because Buscemi has such a small role, I included bonus shots of the other actors to round off a neat 63 screen caps.

Parting Glances screencaps

Steve Buscemi may be in hibernation or whatever, but I’ve been keeping fairly busy this week. I watched and capped the 1986 movie Parting Glances, often labeled as one of the most influential gay issue films of our time. Buscemi plays Nick, a homosexual rocker living with AIDS. It was a lot of fun to watch Buscemi in his first real role, picking out all the little quirks he still does today - the forehead thing when he looks up, the cheek blowing thing… you know. Plus, hello? Jawline, damn.

Aside from all that, Parting Glances is really an incredible story. Sad, of course, but there’s so much humor and hope mixed in that I almost didn’t cry at the end. Almost. I also almost didn’t cry earlier on, to the best line of the film:

Heaven is really boring.
Hang on as long as you can.

It gives me goosebumps even now. Click here for all the pictures - link contains spoilers. Oh, and a dildo… just so you know. I was really proud of myself because I thought I was able to keep it under 150 screens. Nope! Just over 300. Oh well.
